The Seaboard Airline Railway Passenger
Station was constructed around the year 1918. It was a busy hub for people
traveling to Atlanta or New York.
A wood frame structure had previously
stood on this location on the former Georgia, Carolina, and Northern Railroad
and was replaced by this building.
Rail passenger service ended on the
Seaboard Airline Railway in the early 1950's. The building was then used as a
signal maintenance department. Finally, in the early 1980's, the building was no
longer in continuous use and began to deteriorate.

The Chester Metropolitan District received
a grant from the State Department of Transportation in the amount of $197,348 to
renovate this historic building.
This train station will be converted into
a multipurpose building for use by the Chester Metropolitan District, Chester
Sewer District and would be available for other governmental agencies' use.
The renovation is scheduled to be
completed in three phases.
The initial phase, covered by this
grant, will create a multipurpose 98 person capacity conference room, a
pantry and restrooms.
The second phase, estimated to cost
$127,000, will create office space for the billing and accounts payable
departments, as well as computer technology equipment space.
The final phase would add a new
drive-through for customers to pay bills.
