LANDO/MANETTA WASTEWATER
TREATMENT PLANT
SYSTEM UPGRADE

The Lando Wastewater Treatment Plant is
owned and operated by Chester Sewer District and serves the northeastern portion
of Chester County and, thus, serves a rapidly growing area of Chester County.
The plant was constructed in the early
1970's and was last upgraded in 1989.
The treated effluent from the plant is
discharged to Fishing Creek, which is a tributary to the Catawba River.
The current capacity is 500,000 gallons
per day.
SCDHEC
is requiring that the plant be upgraded in order to provide for the
removal of phosphorous. This is a new treatment
requirement that is necessary due to concerns for the water quality of Lake
Wateree.
However, this upgrade will also allow for
future expansion of the plant to increase its capacity. This will support
continued economic development and growth in the part of Chester County served
by this plant.
