JOB TITLE:    WATER PLANT OPERATOR I
                        FORT LAWN WATER TREATMENT PLANT           

STARTING SALARY: $ DEPENDS ON EXPERIENCE

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under direct supervision is responsible for cleaning and maintenance of operational equipment used in the treatment of water to make it potable. Adjusts water treatment equipment and applies and monitors chemical applications in the treatment of water.

REQUIREMENTS

bulletHigh School education or G.E.D.
bulletTwo years work experience in public utility water treatment or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
bulletMust have valid Class "C" or above certificate in Environmental Systems.
bulletMust have current S.C. Drivers License

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

bulletAssists in starting up and shutting down the Filtration plant.
bulletDetermines chemical doses, sets feed rates, starts or stops pumps or other mechanical devices and makes routine chemical checks.
bulletPerforms chemical lab tests on samples collected from sampling points in the plant.
bulletUses various technical laboratory equipment and mathematical calculations to determine water sample results. Records results on daily log sheets.
bulletMay assist in ordering, stocking, labeling and dating lab equipment and chemicals.
bulletRuns daily checks for PH, chlorine, iron, fluoride, color, turbidity, temperature, manganese, carbon dioxide, alkalinity, etc.
bulletMaintains an active file for sterilizer graphs, chemical use graphs, bacteriological logs, daily bench sheets, meter readings and other daily logs.
bulletWashes filters as needed. Drains and cleans water basins.
bulletCuts grass and poisons weeds around fences and equipment.
bulletHelps maintain building and grounds.
bulletReceives, gives and appropriately handles information from customers, co-workers, engineers, etc.
bulletPerforms other related duties as required.
